When I was younger I always played different sports; baseball, basketball, and hockey were some of my favorites. But after finishing school, joining the military and starting a family the time to devote to those activities went by the wayside. Luckily, I was stationed in Germany for over 10 years and biking and walking were always available. As I reach my 60s I have maintained a fairly active lifestyle; walking, biking, and skiing.
As I have aged I didn't slow down as much as become interested in walking for exercise and fun. I started to get some of the normal aches and pains associated with aging. I tried light cross training, yoga, as well as other stretching activities. While they helped they didn't provide enough activity to hold my interest. Walking in new locations with varying degrees of difficulty has held my interest for a few years now. I have even begun Nordic Walking; still great outdoor fun but now using poles for additional upper body work, stability, and support. Numerous additional health benefits and providing more of an overall fuller body workout.
So come along on some walks with me here or get out and begin your own adventure. Feel free to provide some comment and ideas for places to see next.
