2020 threw us all some challenges and limited our ability to travel the way we did in the past. New England states imposed some of the strictest travel limits and quarantine/testing options requirements in the nation. Lucky for me I live in one of the most scenic areas of the United States with an endless variety of outdoor recreation opportunities; Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I scaled back my travel distance and started to keep it local. Living here for most of my life I was now visiting places I had previously passed by without a second thought. I started searching the internet, libraries, and social media for resources and new locations to visit. Unfortunately, what information I could find was out of date or entirely lacking in useful details.
So, I decided to document my walks. Sharing them with anyone who chooses to come along. I will attempt to bring you along on those new trips and experiences from the comfort of home. With specific locations, available amenities, narrative, and lessons learned I hope to open up the desire to take some of those journeys yourself.
Initially, I was walking just to keep busy and as an inexpensive alternative to joining a gym. Pretty soon I used up all the trails I knew existed. I looked for resources to find new locations to visit. Unfortunately what information I could find was out of date or lacking in practical details. Details both the first time or 10th time visitor could still find useful.
Where did my journey begin? Outside the front door, one step at a time. The walks detailed here are at specific scenic locations throughout Cape Cod, New England and US and State Parks. But after I consulted with my doctor about an exercise plan my first walks were right in my own neighborhood. Side streets and Main Street, at any hour of the day is where I might be spotted. Start slow and build up to longer or more distant locations. Through trial and error you will learn what terrain, challenges, or obstacles you need to overcome. But make that first step...the second and subsequent ones get easier!
